Author Portrait: The Boy on the Beach by Tima Kurdi

 
 

Back nearly 2 years ago I did some photography for TEDxEastVan including headshots for the speakers. Tima Kurdi was one of the speakers who did her talk on the devastating and very public death of her nephew, Alan Kurdi, the little boy whose tiny body was found on a Turkish beach in 2015 after he and his family were escaping Syria and the boat they were on capsized. 

Along with her many public engagements and work to spread awareness of what's happening in Syria, Tima has written a memoir, which comes out today. The Boy on the Beach chronicles Tima's own journey from Syria to Canada, and speaks to her family's search for safety during a time of war.

I went to take some more photos of Tima last summer for possible use in the memoir which comes out today, however she liked the TEDx one above them all so decided to use it in the memoir. See below:
