#WeTravel - Nora

Nora, United States

“Last October I walked for 5 weeks on the Camino de Santiago which starts in the Pyrenees mountains in France and goes across Northern Spain to the West Coast Ocean.  I only planned on doing a week of it so I didn’t train for it at all. I just showed up and tried to walk 20 miles a day for five weeks out of nowhere, completely unprepared without the right equipment. After the first day I promised myself I would walk the whole thing, which is about 900km if you go all the way to the ocean, which I did. It was one of the best experiences of my life, and really empowering because I’d always been someone who couldn’t open twist caps on bottles - just rather physically weak, so it was cool to feel I could get strong along the way and be my own transportation. We think we have to go to lots of crazy lengths and use a lot of carbon emissions to get around: doing the walk made me realise how far walking and biking could really get you and exactly how much we can be our own means of getting places.”
