“New York, I want to go to New York, it’s my number one place to go. I want to go and see where all the movies are filmed. It looks beautiful at Christmas with all the decorations and snow and people ice-skating.
My first holiday was to York in England when I was 10 years old. I went there to learn English at a summer school …my parents are not very happy with my English now! I enjoyed it very much. People from York are so friendly. The landscape and houses had an impact on me then because they were so different from what I was used to seeing in the Canary Islands where I’m from.
I like the climate and the beaches of the Canary Islands, and that you can do lots of sport in areas of nature. The food is good. It’s really different from the peninsula food. The people there are friendly and influenced by the many tourists who visit the island and who choose to live there after they visit. They bring their traditions and way of life to the Islands. We have restaurants like Hooters…but lots of Swedish and Norwegian ones too, which make the island more cosmopolitan. I think it’s a good thing, and having culture in the community is good for international relations. When the people who come to the Canary Islands respect our traditional culture there isn’t a problem. The problem will be when they don’t respect our culture and we don’t respect the culture of them.”
